Brick & Tin

We’ve seen Brick & Tin around and on Yelp in recent searches but we had not visited. A new one recently opened in Cahaba Heights so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunatly it was not a good experience.

We thought that it was a sit down type restaurant, but it is not. You order at the counter and are given a number. The lady at the counter asked if we had been in before and we said no. She just said order here and we’ll bring it out to you. Ok no problem. We take a menu and decide what we want. Go back to the counter and I ordered Tuscan hunter’s ragu and bread which we had to pay for as it was like a side item. I only ordered the bread because she offered, so I thought maybe it was special. Jeff had the fall turkey melt panini with macaroni and cheese. We both ordered a sweet tea.

We find a table and a server brings us water in a pitcher. She didn’t ask us what we had ordered to drink, so we thought maybe this was brought to everyone. We then watch her walk out with an order go across the street get in a car and leave. Apparently she was going out on a delivery. We saw her back in the restaurant a little later. Another server brings our meal and we had to ask for the tea that we paid for. Well the panini was just a grilled sandwich and not made in a panini press, and in his words the macaroni and cheese was “nothing special”. My pasta was good. He didn’t bring my bread that we paid for and I had to ask for it when I saw him at the table next to us. I only had a few bites left of my pasta when he finally brought the bread. When he brought it he said that it was fresh baked focaccia, well it wasn’t warm and didn’t seem fresh, but I also don’t have the type of bread often, so maybe it was how it comes out of the oven?? They didn’t come around checking back in with you or making sure you had everything you needed.

The food was just OK but the service was not up to par. They only have like two things on the menu that Jeff will eat, so I don’t see it being in our rotation of restaurants. Maybe I’ll visit again one day with friends.
