Any excuse for a date night is a good one!!
We recently went to Red Mountain Theater to see Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. This was the 2nd show that I had seen at the new theater and Jeff’s first. First of all the theater is really nice and if you haven’t visited you should!
We started with dinner at a new restaurant downtown near Regions Field and Red Mountain Theater called Tasty Town. When Jeff first told me where he had thought about I was like what in the world is that, where is it and what kind of food do they have. Well it is a kinda fancy-ish restaurant downtown. I mean the restaurant itself is new and kinda fancy, but you don’t have to get super dressy to eat there. It is a casual restaurant right beside Railroad Park and about a half a block from Regions Field. The parking is street parking or valet. We opted for valet which was really nice since when we left the restaurant it was raining pretty hard.
We sat at the bar since there was not a wait for a seat there, but there was a short wait for a table and we were on a schedule. We started with an appetizer of meatballs from there small plates. They were really good. I found out why Jeff wanted to eat here. He is on a mission to try any pastitsio he can find. This is a Greek lasagna made with meat sauce, bechamel cheese sauce, and it is usually spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon and other spices. I actually tried it first and didn’t really like the flavor, but he fell in love with it. I had the Greek style fish that came with tomatoes, zucchini and onions. It was good, but not really worth the cost. They had a really amazing looking chocolate cake that I spotted sitting on a counter near the kitchen. But we opted to pass on dessert since we had an appetizer.

After dinner we went a few blocks over to the new Red Mountain Theater. We paid for parking in one of their lots and was able to park close to the door. We had to wait a few minutes before they opened the doors. They have everyone to wait in the lobby area.
In the lobby area they have a bar, a baby grand piano, but no one was playing it the night we visited. They also have a special bar for sponsors that you have to be checked off of a list to get into. They offered an option that you could complete a form and go ahead and pay for a drink to be ready at intermission so you didn’t have to wait in line. We purchased a bottle of water beforehand so that we wouldn’t need anything at intermission.

The show was very good and we look forward to going back soon to watch another one.
