Orange Beach Wrap Up

I’m going to wrap up our Orange Beach vacation. I threw in a couple of Christmas posts since my last Orange Beach post.

We stayed at a new to us place this visit. We rented a condo at Phoenix West II. We had a beautifully decorated, spacious condo with great views of the gulf.

Our first night there we had dinner at The Gulf. The views of the gulf and Perdido Pass make it a great place to eat. My food there was good and it is always a go to place for us. We love the views and the ambiance.

We ate breakfast out one morning and we chose Sunliner Diner. It’s always a good breakfast spot. They also serve lunch and dinner, but we’ve only eaten there for breakfast.

Let me start by saying that I did not have a really good fish meal anywhere that we ate. They were all average and nothing to write home about. Being that we were in one of the best places for fresh seafood it was disappointing to not enjoy a good fish meal.

We had lunch at Wolf Bay Orange Beach. They supposedly have a “great” salad bar. I was disappointed in the selections. Maybe it was because we were there at lunch and during the off season, but it was a small bar and there was not a large selection of salad components. Could have been because we were at the Orange Beach location and not the original location in Foley. Could be that they didn’t have everything available. The menu reads “A full assortment of Wolf Bay signature salads along with the traditional garden fresh salad bar with a variety of house made dressings.” I think this bar was missing the signature salads, as it was just the traditional salad bar. Maybe I was missing the whole Wolf Bay salad bar experience. My meal was average. Nothing that makes me want to make a trip back for.

Also, just a pet peeve, but how can you throw a little cheese on the top of grits and call it “cheese grits” how about grits topped with cheese or grits with a sprinkling of cheese. I know that there are some really good cheese grits recipes available. I think the first ones I ever made were in my high school home economics class.

Our last night there we had narrowed our dinner down to Fresh off the Boat, so we headed to San Roc Cay. I was looking forward to eating there. I had read so many positive reviews in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Facebook group. Well we get there and park. There’s not a lot of people there we find parking pretty easily. We think it’s because we were there in the off season. So we go up to the restaurant and was disappointed to find that they were closed to the public for their monthly wine tasting dinner. So back to Yelp we go to find a second choice. We decide on Big Fish Restaurant. We arrive and felt a little underdressed. It took a really long time before our waitress came to our table. I was disappointed in my food here also. I thought since they were busy and it seemed that this was the place everyone was at that it would have been good. Oh well, we can cross them off our our been there tried that list.

Being in a town where you can get the freshest seafood, I hate to have to say that I think my best meal of the week was a stuffed potato from the Big Potato Company at Foley. But it was delicious.

Other than eating and getting some ice cream we also did a little shopping at The Wharf, the outlet shops at Foley and we stopped in at Island Outfitters. We did not visit the other souvenir shops this trip.

We did get some relaxation time watching the sunrise and sunsets and just listening to the waves lap the shore.

Until next time Orange Beach!!
