The Groovy Nomad – Trenton, GA

Have you ever went to look for something and can’t remember where you put it?? Well I had one of those moments this week when I was looking for the post about our 2023 trip to The Groovy Nomad hotel in Trenton, GA. Guess what, I didn’t find it and realized that I never wrote it.

For Jeff’s birthday in February 2023 we decided that we were going to visit The Groovy Nomad. We’ve passed this roadside hotel many times while trying to bypass the Chattanooga traffic. We had been checking out their pictures of the remodel, trying to decide what room we wanted. By the way each of the rooms is decorated differently. They also have a really cute common area. We did not take the opportunity to enjoy since it was a quick trip with cold nights. They do have heaters out there, but we crashed at the end of our one full day there.

So when we decided on our dates there was only one room available, the Cheetah room. No there was not cheetah print wallpaper on the walls. The room was tastefully decorated with mid-century modern furniture and decor. There was a cheetah or two around the room. You can check them our here https://thegroovynomad.com/motel/ and you can also find them on all the social media sites.

We drove up after work on Friday since it’s just like a 2 hour trip. We arrived and got settled in. On Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Coffee Corner in downtown Trenton. We then visited some of the local antique stores.

We then used the pass that was available in our room and went to Cloudland Canyon State Park. We stopped in at the welcome center and picked up a map. We then made our way to the waterfall area. They are massive and the steps down, well lets just say that we realized if we went down we’d have to come back up so we passed and just took pictures from the top of the falls.

After we finished at the park we headed into downtown Chattanooga and grabbed lunch at Taco Mamacita. You may remember reading about that restaurant from my 50th birthday trip there. If not, you can check that out here https://twomoodyjones.com/2022/08/13/you-only-turn-50-once/ This time I had the taco bowl, sounded good, but that was some super spicy jalapeno corn. My mouth was on FIRE!

If you’ve been here awhile, you should know me by now, if I’m in Chattanooga, near Chattanooga, passing thru Chattanooga or within driving distance we are going to Clumpie’s. So of course we had to have birthday dessert and what better dessert than ice cream!! Also planned to use this to cool off my mouth from my lunch. This time we had a flight! What is a flight? Well it is 6 scoops of ice cream. We can’t remember all the flavors that we had, but we do know that we had chocolate orange, Guiness pretzel stout and Mayan hot coco. We thought that the hot coco would just be chocolate ice cream. Boy were we mistaken! So as I am eating the ice cream I get like an itch in the back of my throat. I thought it was just me. I finally said something to Jeff and he was like me too. We narrowed it down to that scoop of ice cream. First time we’ve ever had spicy ice cream. I can say that it is a flavor that I don’t recommend. Especially if you are like us and not really sure what it was.

As we were leaving the area we found The Chattanooga Cookie. There was not parking so Jeff circled the parking lot while I went in and picked up a couple cookies for our bed time night snack. We don’t have a late night snack at home, but vacation calories don’t count right? The cookies were good, but not something I’ll have to have on my next trip. If you want to find out our favorite cookie place, use the search bar at the bottom of this blog post and search for for cookie and see if you can figure it out.

After lunch we headed back to the hotel to hang our until dinner. For dinner we weren’t hungry, but decided to try Thatcher’s Barbecue in Trenton. After our ice cream experience Jeff went with a plain ole baked potato. I had loaded fried bologna sliders and we had chili cheese tater tots. Dinner was uneventful flavorwise. LOL!

Sunday morning we drove to Cleveland, TN and met our nephew Avery and his girlfriend Madi for lunch and a couple games of bowling before heading back home.
