Guntersville – Cathedral Caverns

We had a long weekend in January so we decided to head back to Guntersville. This time we rented a condo right on the lake.

We drove up on Saturday morning. We got there and did some shopping around the downtown area and then had lunch at Pizza Ed before doing an early check-in at the condo. We had the same meal at Pizza Ed that we had the last two visits, bread sticks and The Meat pizza. It’s delicious so why change. LOL!

We did a late afternoon visit to Cathedral Caverns for the cave tour. It is a guided tour through the cave. The guide gave us the history of the cave and pointed out different rock formations along the way. It was originally named Bat Cave. We did see a bat flying around when we first started, our guide pointed it out. There is a concrete pathway that weaves through the cave. It is about 1.5 mile walk. You do have to have a reservation and can only go in with a guide. The temperature stays around 60 degrees year round.

For dinner Saturday night we picked up Guthrie’s and took back to the condo.

Sunday we met our friend Danna and her husband Jerry for lunch at Another Broken Egg at City Harbor. Her husband told us that you can often see the eagles at the dam. So off we went. Guess what we didn’t see any!! They are elusive to us. LOL! It was FREEZING!!!

We rested at the condo for the afternoon and went to JD’s Grill for dinner. We started with the loaded fries. I had a steak and grilled vegetables and Jeff had the tortellini.

Ahhhhhh! Monday is what I had been looking forward to. We were unable to get an appointment while in the area last year. We went to The Soak House & Soapery for a relaxing couple’s soak. It was what seemed like a long wait for them to get to us in the waiting area. We didn’t know that they were going to take all of our personal items and that we weren’t going to have them with us. Everywhere else that I have been to, you carry your personal items room to room with you. But here we had to put our things in a bag and they “checked” them. We had to ask for them when we were done. I could see this if you were doing multiple services, but not for just one. They finally had our room ready. We relaxed until we looked like prunes and then gathered our things and left. We did not stay as long as it was scheduled for. We enjoyed, but was not as magical as I had hoped it would be. Would we do it again? Probably not. Not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn’t it.

We drove to Huntsville to the Bridge Street Town Center. We went there specifically to go to the Lego Store. I was looking for mini-figs for the grandson. They sell all the bricks individually but not the mini-fig pieces. So that was a bust. We did grab lunch at Agave & Rye. We’ve eaten here probably every time that we’ve been in the area.

We checked traffic before we left Huntsville, but we should have kept the map open and paid closer attention. We ended up in stopped traffic around Cullman because of a wreck on the interstate.

But all in all another great weekend getaway!!!
