We recently tried a new upscale-casual Mexican restaurant on 2nd Avenue South in downtown Birmingham called De Nada. It is in what is called the Parkside District. It is a block from the Birmingham Barons baseball stadium. They just opened April 29.

They have a paid parking lot on the same block and street parking is available, if you can find a spot. The night we went we opted to park in the parking lot as there were plenty of available spots. When we went to the app to pay for parking it started at 2 hours. The sign in the parking lot starts at an hour, but on the app it starts at 2 hours, doesn’t give an option to choose just an hour. Which ended up working out as we ended up leaving the lot right at the 2 hour mark.

We were seated right away. The service was a little slow, but they had only been open a few weeks.

We both had sweet tea. They brought us complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was chunky, but was not spicy. It was good. We ordered the trio dip appetizer. It was guacamole, queso and ground beef with cheddar and crema and came with house flour tortilla chips. They were thicker than the chips that came with the salsa. All 3 dip options were good. The ground beef one was a lot of meat and really thick. I mixed it on my chip with the queso.

For our meal Jeff had the chimichanga and I had Camila’s Special Plate. Mine was rice with chicken, bell pepper, onion, queso blanco and cilantro. Jeff’s was ground beef, with queso blanco, came with rice, beans and sour cream. He had them to leave off the guacamole.

Everything was delicious even if service was a little slow. We’ll definitely be back. We have an upcoming show at Red Mountain Theater a couple blocks away and the restaurant we’ve eaten at before a show in the past has closed. So we’ll have to plan for this to be our before show restaurant and plan accordingly so that we do have time to eat there before.

Above the door is “Vaya Con Dios”. I had to look it up and it translates to Go with God!
