Julie – Today we grabbed lunch at Slice Pizza in the Lakeview area. This has become one of our favorite pizza places. We LOVE LOVE the baked feta appetizer. It is a block of feta on a bed of olive oil, garlic and maybe red peppers. It is served with crostini bread. It is so yummy!! We like going for lunch because from 11am-2pm you can get pizza by the slice. On the weekend you can only get cheese and pepperoni by the slice, during the week they have a daily special. Today Jeff went with the cheese. I opted for a summer special, a watermelon salad. I had never had a “watermelon salad”. I read the ingredients and decided to give it a try. There was not a piece of lettuce on the plate, which is what we all relate to a “salad”. This salad was a bed of watermelon with yellow squash, zucchini, heirloom tomatoes and another type of tomato, corn, some type of peas in the pod, feta cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. It was piled high on the plate and was very pretty, and very tasty.
After lunch we went to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to play with our new camera. Today was a very comfortable day to be outside. We enjoyed taking in all the sites and taking lots of pictures.
Afterwards we went to Scoops in Homewood. We thought it was homemade ice cream but it was more like gelato. I had a chocolate peanut butter swirl. It was good, but we decided that we prefer the Bluff Park ice cream shop. Today we were the only customers in the store. There weren’t alot of shops open in downtown Homewood today.
