We recently took a trip to north Georgia. In planning the trip I found that one of the routes would take us thru Ellijay, GA. I’m not sure why or how, but I had heard about this city before. I never did figure out what I had heard about it. Oh well, we enjoyed our quick stop.
We decided this would be our lunch stop. We arrived to the city and pulled into a shopping center and turned to Yelp to find something for lunch. We were looking for a non-chain restaurant. We found The Roof which ended up being in the older downtown area.
The menu drew us in when we saw bologna sliders on the appetizer menu. So of course we had to give them a try. It was fried bologna with truffle dijonnaise on sweet rolls. They were really good.

We arrived in downtown, got the last parking spot in the first public parking lot that we pulled into. We looked up and found that we were right across the street from the restaurant as it is the only rooftop dining in the area. We went to the corner where it was located and starting looking for how to get to the restaurant. We found that you have to go around to the very back of the building and then take that stairs or an elevator to the roof top where the restaurant is.
It was a normal early spring day, kind of a warm but a cool breeze. So we left our jackets in the car. We asked for indoor seating. We were sat the last available table. It was right beside the door and right under the air conditioner. So we got a breeze every time the door was opened and I got cold every time the air turned on. But the thought of walking all the way back to the car wasn’t anything that I wanted to do or ask Jeff to do.
There was an awesome view inside and out.
For lunch I had Shrimp and Grits and Jeff had the Rooftop Burger with an added egg.
After lunch we walked around the downtown area and visited several of the local shops and the fountain at the town square. When we were ready to go we drove around the downtown area and then we headed back to the main road to head on to our destination.
If we are ever in the are we’ll definitely be back. It is a place we’d suggest you stop if you are passing thru the area.
