Family Adventures in Tellico Plains: Food and Fun

In July, 2024 we made a trip to visit our nephew in Tennessee. We decided this trip to stay in Tellico Plains. Mileage wise it is not far from him. However, it took a little time to get to his apartment because we were in the mountains.

We stayed in a cute cabin that we found on VRBO right off the Cherohala Skyway.

We arrived Friday night. After we got there, we grabbed dinner at Iron Works Grille across from the Harley Davidson store in Tellico Plains. There was live music downstairs but we opted to sit in the dining room upstairs with a water view. I had the hand breaded trout with fried okra and a salad. Jeff had a burger and sweet potato fries.

After dinner we went back to the cabin. Saturday morning we got up. We had an early breakfast at a hole in the wall restaurant in Tellico Plains called B&B Restaurant. I had a breakfast plate and Jeff had gravy and biscuits.

We picked up our nephew and went to Maryville. We went to a few stores and had lunch at Yassin’s Falafel House. Jeff and our nephew had the chicken shawarma sandwich. It included chicken shawarma, white sauce, and french fries wrapped in a pita. I had a chicken plate with rice, baba ghanoush, white sauce, and a pita.

We waited around the area for our niece to get off work. We picked her up and went to see Deadpool 3 at the Foothills at the AMC 12 in Maryville, TN. They have one of the largest BigD theaters we’ve been to. The screen is floor to ceiling. The seating consists of cushioned stadium-like seats. It is a massive theater. We were blown away the first time we walked into theater #1.

So……there is a story that we still talk about from this particular movie. When I go to a movie at night, who am I kidding a movie at any time of day LOL!!, I usually fall asleep. Something about the dark and cool theater puts me out. Makes for an expensive nap. So I had fallen asleep and our niece needs to go to the restroom during the movie. Jeff nudged me awake. As she was passing in front of me, she didn’t realize I was awake. When she realized it, she was thrown off balance. She fell into the lady’s lap beside me. Made for a funny story that we still talk about. Remember that time….LOL!!!!

Sunday our niece had to work. We took our nephew to lunch at MudPuppy before we had to head home. It is a restaurant right on Tellico Lake in Vonore, TN. There is parking up the hill from the restaurant. There are boat docks right at the restaurant, allowing you to come by car or by boat. We saw some come in from fun on the water and dock to grab lunch. The ambiance and food was great we even had some feathered and gilled friends nearby.
